Contouring is all the rage right now. Of course this means I have been testing out a few of these contouring products. Most recently I have been adding the NYX Highlight & Contour Pro Palette.
NYX is a drugstore brand (one of my faves btw). At this moment this is the only drugstore Highlight and Contour Palette on the market. Despite this product being drugstore it is a whopping $25. To me that is insane. I realize it contains a lot of product, but one of the pros of buying drugstore makeup is the significantly lower prices. At $25 the NYX Highlight & Contour Palette is only $15 cheaper than the high end Anastasia Beverly Hills Contour Kit and $21 cheaper than the Kat Vond D Contour Kit. Both kits have multiple shades and large amounts of product. Despite the fact that I was BLOWN away by the price of this product I added it to my absurdly growing makeup collection.
The NYX Highlight & Contour Palette contains four Highlight shades and four contour shades. In the highlight shades there are two shimmer and two matte. All of the Contour Shades Are Matte.
I would say all of the shades run a bit more powdery then I would prefer. They definitely don’t match up to the buttery textures of many of the High End contour palettes on the market. The two shimmer highlights are particularly powdery and coarse. I keep trying to make the contour shades work for me. They though they look fine at first they quickly become muddy and refuse to stay put.
This is NOT my favorite product. I LOVE me some drugstore products, but only when they are quality products. I would recommend you save up the extra 15 to 25 dollars and invest in a more quality product. I recently reviewed the Marc Jacobs Instamarc Light Filtering Contour Powder in Mirage and I am loving it. I recently hit pan on the contour shade I am loving it so much. I never ever hit pan on ANYTHING.
